NEW DELHI: Former President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf passed away due to a prolonged illness In Dubai on Sunday, Pakistan’s Geo News reported. He was 79.
He had been undergoing treatment for an ailment ‘Amyloidosis’ at American Hospital in Dubai.
As per reports, the former president had been hospitalized for a couple of weeks due to a complication of his ailment and died after succumbing to it.
Musharraf had been living in Dubai since 2016. The former president has been in UAE for the last eight years getting medical treatment.
He was the tenth president of the South Asian nation after the successful military coup in 1999. He had served as the 10th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan (CJCSC) from 1998 to 2001 and the 7th top general from 1998 to 2007.

Musharraf attempted to normalize relations between New Delhi and Islamabad.
According to analysts, the Kashmir dispute which remains a potent point of contention between the two countries, was close to being resolved during his rule. However, the peace process was derailed soon after.
He returned to Pakistan in 2013 to run for a seat in parliament but was immediately disqualified. He was allowed to leave for Dubai in 2016.
